The Blue Connection
The Oceans Economy Story (United Nations Documentary)
Project Summary
The Blue Connection film tells an inspiring story of unity, support, and multilateral collaboration between three countries - Barbados, Belize, and Costa Rica - and their collective efforts to sustainably develop their coastal communities in the wake of the global pandemic. The story takes the viewer on a journey through the eyes of members of the local communities and shares an intimate perspective of the daily lives and challenges faced by people working in the blue economy. The film shares insights into the workings of the framework that facilitated this connection - the Ocean Economy and Trade Strategies project, which was implemented between 2018 and 2022. The project was jointly created, run, and coordinated by UNCTAD and DOALOS divisions of the United Nations, with the support of the UN Development Account.
